Things We Like About HSBC's Revolution Credit Card
The 5X points for eligible online spending. You earn 5X Rewards for every $1 you spend on online transactions using this card. This includes spending on online shopping sites, online travel tickets, online movie tickets, food ordered online and EZ-Reloads ordered online. That makes this one of the most powerful rewards credit cards for online shopping.
You get 5X points on dining. Now you have an excuse to treat yourself to dining out with the HSBC Reward programme! Earn 5X Rewards points for spending at local restaurants and cafes (dining merchants at hotels are not included), helping you reach your rewards goals faster.
5X Rewards on entertainment. Get rewarded for your everyday spending at local entertainment venues! Cardholders earn 5X Rewards points for every $1 spent at local pubs, clubs, bar and family KTVs (entertainment merchants within local hotels not included).
Earn 1 point per $1 spent on purchases. Get more value for every $1 you spend with the HSBC Rewards programme! Earn 1 Rewards point for every eligible retail $1 charged to your card both locally and overseas. Rewards can be redeemed either through online or phone banking for exclusive gifts and vouchers or even used to pay off your annual fee. Cardholders also have the option to convert points into miles if they are enrolled in a frequent flyer programme.
Unlimited rewards. Unlike many other credit cards, HSBC's Revolution Credit Card doesn't put a cap on the amount of rewards you can earn. You also don't need to spend a minimum amount in order to earn the rewards. This is a big benefit, as other cards may offer higher rewards, but then place limits on how many rewards you can earn, or limit you in other ways.
The annual fee waived for the first 2 years. The $150 annual fee is waived for the first 2 years. To qualify for the subsequent annual fee waiver you will need to have a minimum annual spend of $12,500 on this card. If you charge most of your yearly spending to this card, you can easily avoid paying the annual fee.
HSBC Vacations rebates & discounts. HSBC Vacations is a travel portal which offers over 100,000 travel options worldwide including hotels, flights and travel packages. By booking trips through HSBC Vacations cardholders can enjoy 9% off select bookings on hotels, land packages, tours and attractions (eligible travel deals show the CV logo), and a 6% cash rebate on your other travel bookings. Using your HSBC card for HSBC Vacations bookings also entitles you to a range of complimentary travel gifts such as luggage (subject to a minimum spend). Terms and conditions apply.
Introductory interest rate for balance transfers. Manage any outstanding balances or credit lines with this card's exclusive offer of 2.50% p.a. for 6 months on balance transfers or 4.88% p.a. for 12 months on balance transfers both with a processing fee of $88. The processing fee usually charged for balance transfers is also waived, helping you save even more! Applications for this exclusive card offer (for new HSBC's Revolution Credit Card holders only) must be made within 3 months from card account opening date. After the intro period, you will have the standard 25.9% interest per annum. Terms and conditions apply.
Card balance conversion plan. For a limited time only you will benefit from a fee waiver on the processing fee for HSBC's card balance conversion plan. This allows cardholders to divide purchase costs into small payment instalments over 3, 6 or 12 months. This is subject to approval and terms and conditions.
14% instant petrol discounts. Save on your fuel costs with an impressive 14% instant discount at Shell and Caltex petrol stations islandwide.
Movie privileges at Golden Village. Use your HSBC card to purchase a HSBC Movie card and enjoy great discounts at Golden Village cinemas. Terms and conditions apply.
Contactless payments. This card is fitted with Visa payWave for quick NFC payments.
Our Least Favourite Things About HSBC's Revolution Credit Card
Your points expire. The points you earn are valid for 3 years from the time you earn them, which means you will need to use them within that time or you will lose them.
Late payment charge. A charge of $55 will apply if you fail to make your monthly minimum payment on time. I recommend that you always make your payments in full on time, as that way you can also avoid paying interest, allowing you to maximise the savings you get with this card. Still, if you do happen to miss a payment for any reason, be prepared to pay.
